Q It's Electric. It must be expensive to operate.
A NO! The Symphony Electric Fireplace operates for pennies a day. The flame uses slightly under 300 Watts of power. With an average electricity rate, the unit operates for a remarkable 2 cents/hour* providing all the benefits of the exclusive ElectraFlame ambience.

When you choose to activate the heat feature, the total cost to operate the flame and heater is approximately 7 cents/hour.* Gas fireplace manufacturers regularly advertise running costs of 17 cents/hour.

* Electricity rates vary from place to place. If you know the electric rate charged by your utility, we would be pleased to calculate your hourly cost.

Q How efficient are Symphony Fireplaces?
A Symphony Fireplaces are 100% efficient. This means that all of the energy supplied to the unit is converted into heat, which stays in the room.*

* Many gas fireplaces advertise 70-80% efficiency. This means that 20-30% of the energy supplied to the units is vented outside.

Q How large an area can the Symphony Fireplace heat?
A It is important to remember that most fireplaces are selected as an auxiliary source of heat and rarely as the primary heat source in a dwelling.

Symphony in conjunction with your primary heating system
The Symphony Fireplaces produce about 4500 BTU of total heat.* Working in conjunction with the home's primary heating system, the Symphony Fireplace is capable of taking the chill off just about any size room when required.*

* Most gas fireplaces produce over 20,000 BTU of heat in a single room while the average size home requires only 90,000 BTU to heat the entire house.

Symphony heating an area by itself
The Symphony Fireplace has been sized to suit most applications. The area it will heat depends on the temperature differential that you are trying to maintain between the inside heated area and the outside. Assumming the Symphony is the only heat source available and you have average insulation. (R12 walls/R20 ceiling) then the chart below applies:

Chart

Example #1 (Refer to chart)
On a cool evening with an OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE of +50°F/+10°C, the Symphony Fireplace can comfortably maintain a +75°F/+24°C INSIDE TEMPERATURE in a ROOM SIZE up to 700 sqft/64.7sqm. For example, the room could be 20' x 35' or 6.1m x 10.6m.

Example #2 (Refer to chart)
In cooler seasons, with OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES reaching +32°F/0°C, the Symphony Fireplace can warm a 435 sqft/40.4 family room to an INSIDE TEMPERATURE of +72°F/+22°C. For example, the room could be 29' x 15' or 8.8m x 4.6m.

Example #3 (Refer to chart)
On those really cold days when the OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE dips to -4°F/-20°C, the Symphony Fireplace can take the winter blues away by comfortably heating a 242 sqft/22.4 sqm living room to an INSIDE TEMPERATURE of +68°F/+20°C. For example, the room could be 12' x 20' or 3.6m x 6.1m.

Q Does the Symphony Fireplace make a lot of noise?
A NO! The Symphony Fireplace has an ultra quiet fan which gently circulates warm air at very low sound levels.*

* The blower units on many gas units are very powerful (and noisy) in order to disperse higher heat production.

[top]

Q Is it easy to install?
A Yes! Just take it home and plug it in. The Symphony Fireplace plugs into any standard 120 volt outlet and does not require a dedicated circuit. In addition, the Symphony Fireplace does not require any venting, pipelines to supply fuel, expensive professional reconstruction to your home or troublesome inspections.

Whether the Symphony Fireplace is being installed into one of the many attractive "no-tools-required" mantels or into an existing fireplace opening, installation is fast and easy!

Q The flame looks so realistic. How does it work?
A Dimplex has developed a patented technology called ElectraFlame which projects random refracted light to create the realistic flame.
[top]

Q Can the flame be adjusted?
A Yes! The Symphony Fireplace controls allow you to adjust the flame ambience to suit any mood.*

* Many other fireplaces have very limited or no flame adjustments at all.

[top]

Q Will the Symphony flame operate without the heat?
A Yes! The Symphony flame and heater operate independently of each other. This means you can enjoy the flame ambience all the time, in any season.*

* In many gas unites, the flame cycles off as the room temperature rises and you lose the flame effect until the room cools down again. In smaller rooms, gas fireplaces can be off a lot of the time and in warmer climates they many not come on at all unless the thermostat is set higher than the room temperature.

Q Can the Symphony Fireplace be relocated?
A Yes! Unlike fireplaces installed with venting and fuel pipelines, the Symphony Fireplace can be readily moved from room to room. If you are planning to move to a new home, you can take your investement with you.

Q How does the type of heat compare?
A Symphony Fireplaces distribute a warm, gentle, even heat over a wide area by means of a silent fan-forced heater. When the heating element is off, the fan continues to operate, circulating the air around the room.

* Most gas fireplaces transmit heat by radiation from the heated glass panel which provides high close range heat, and by convection when the fan cycles on and off, as controlled by the thermostat.

Q Is it easy to maintain?
A Yes! Every 2 to 3 years the light bulbs, readily available at any hardware store, will need to be replaced. This can be easily performed by the homeowner.*

Periodically you may wish to clean the front surface of the glass.

Q What about safety?
A The Symphony Fireplace has full electrical certification throughout North America for complete peace of mind.

To ensure the safety of your family members, no combustible energy sources are used to produce the flame. This means that you never need to worry about oxygen depletion or carbon monoxide poisoning in your home and the glass remains cool to the touch to ensure children do not burn their hands on the glass.

Other features include:

  • Impact resistant safety glass
  • Safety cut out with reset controls
